Volunteer Opportunities

New World Hope Organization depends on volunteers for many aspects of our operations to augment our support staff. Our programs and staff are continually growing and our need for volunteers is expanding. Volunteers assist in the implementation of some of our projects and activities. Volunteers are the backbone of NWHO. There are many caring and committed individuals and groups across the world who volunteer their time and expertise; they are part of the large team of NWHO volunteers around the world. Your gift of time to NWHO will help make a difference and is very much valued.

All volunteers are generally self funded, and no wages are paid. Volunteers work long hours in harsh weather, in very difficult conditions. It is hard to employ people to work under such conditions but our volunteers however, seem indefatigable. The majority of our volunteers are otherwise fully and generally on leave from their regular employment which includes paramedics, doctors, solicitors, and publishing editors with outdoor skills.

Volunteers on our programmes are selected based on set criteria such as:

  A first-degree qualification or its equivalent in relevant area
•  An even-tempered, relaxed and flexible manner
•  A desire to work with people from diverse socio-cultural background
•  Ability to work well with others and contribute to the overall work of the organization

Requirements for the Volunteer Programme

NWHO will welcome volunteers with background in Humanitarian,Development Studies, Public Health , Education Policy and Law. In addition, NWHO shall welcome volunteers with Computer Sciences, Natural Science and Humanities background.

Applicants to the Volunteer Programme should have:

•  A background or strong interest in Humanitarian and environmental issues.
•  A knowledge and ability to work in the English language or in a language necessary to work in the     particular environment.
•  An ability to work independently and take initiatives
•  A creative and global thinking
•  The Interested volunteers will have to provide two references.

As a New World Hope Organization's Volunteer, you can volunteer/assist in our projects such as in schools, vocational training centres, Humanitarian Assistance Programs (medical-relief, hunger-relief and disaster-relief programs )local communities in Pakistan and throughout the world, etc.

TYPES OF VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

Disaster Volunteer Opportunities

Disaster Action Team and Relief Operations

Volunteers assist at larger local disasters where emergency shelters are set up in community facilities. Assignments include shelter operations, feeding, damage assessment, gathering and moving supplies, collaborating with government and other agencies, and public information.

Community Disaster Education


Volunteers promote preparedness by staffing booths at community events or speaking to community groups. Training is provided. Flexible hours, primarily daytime and weekends.

Disaster Healthcare Volunteer (DHV)

The Disaster Healthcare Volunteer (DHV) program is a worldwide, nationwide, statewide system used to manage and mobilize licensed healthcare providers in response to large-scale public health emergencies. Registered volunteers may be called to assist the community in the event of an emergency, such infectious disease outbreaks or natural disasters. DHVs consist of licensed health care and behavioral health professionals including nurses, physicians, pharmacists, dentists, medical technicians, psychologists, social workers, family therapists, psychiatric technicians and allied professions such as veterinarians, coroners and medical examiners.  In addition, non-medical community members who desire to serve as volunteers in our community are encouraged to register.

Emergency Volunteer Programs.
NWHO offers many opportunities to become involved in emergency response efforts locally and internationaly. Almost any individual can assist us in some way during times of disaster or community need. We also have specific trained roles to fill and a place for groups of individuals who wish to work together as response teams to get involved. Public Information Officer
Assist in delivering information about disaster relief operations, recovery programs and victims assistance to news media. Write news summaries, take photographs, and arrange interviews. Non- disaster activities can include writing newsletters, making speeches and giving presentations.

Instruct, or assist, classes in first aid,  water safety, and other health related topics.

Office Volunteering

NWHO is searching for capable volunteers who are willing to strengthen NWHO’s work. Much of the work done by our volunteers and staff is supported by the invaluable input of office-based volunteers. As an office support volunteer, your role could include:

Collect, collate and analyze the programme data and generate narrative and analytical reports.
Improve and update documentation system.
Participate in activities in the field to be able to document project activities
Prepare communication and advocacy materials in Urdu and English
Liaison with media, donors and other stakeholders
Prepare press releases and briefs for public

Fundraising Volunteer:

Volunteers are needed who have interest in helping to conduct fundraising activities to support NWHO.
The Fundraising Volunteer provides a full range of fundraising and program assistance in the implementation of the organizational development plan and overall mission for support of Humanitarian,, alternative development and international social change. Depending on the time of the year, the volunteer will encompass some or all of the following responsibilities.

Newsletter and Brochure Writing, Editing or Production
NWHO needs a team of skilled writers/editors or video makers to produce newsletter items, brochures, position papers, informational videos for support of public relations efforts. We also need individuals who can produce or edit materials on social work, humanitarian/environmental issues and support NWHO training.

Volunteers experienced in this work are particularly sought.

Support to NWHO Projects
Most NWHO special projects, including development of new training programs, international initiatives and response to emergency situations, require Volunteers who are skilled at, and stimulated by, the challenge of organizing and leading the work of an expert team.

Volunteers in this category should be people who have had experience in organizing and leading successful projects. Tell us about your experience and whether you are willing to apply your skills in possibly new arenas.

Grant Writing and Grant Seeking

We are looking for volunteers who have had experience and success in writing grant proposals and/or in identifying potential grant sources and who would be willing to share in this work to advance NWHO projects. Grant related work will be closely coordinated by the NWHO office.

Outreach / Campaign Volunteer

The Outreach/Campaign Volunteer will work with New World Hope Organization team to expand its visibility among various populations and it publicity capabilities by promoting local, national and international media (print, radio, Internet) exposure.

Development Volunteer Top

The Development Volunteer will work with New World Hope Organization staff and Board members to develop and implement fundraising strategies, including proposal writing, research on funding prospects, assistance with direct mail campaigns, and special events for our community development projects.

Research Volunteer

The Research Volunteer will help New World Hope Team in researching and writing about current social, economic, political, and cultural conditions. He/she will work in collaboration with our staff.

Alumni of NWHO Interns/volunteers

The Interns/volunteer Coordinator will maintain a database of all the New World Hope Organization volunteers and create opportunities to the volunteers to interact with each other after they leave. They can be meaningfully involved with the New World Hope Organization activities even after they leave. They can also become Online Volunteers.

New World Hope Organization Online Volunteers may share their time and expertise to help in different ways. These volunteers will help without having to leave their homes. They may volunteer on weekends, in the evenings, on their lunch break, or whenever their schedules permit. They may volunteer from home computers, work computers, or computers in public access centres. These concepts are to be further developed and strengthened.

Volunteers Support 

Information on Travel, Health, Accommodation

NWHO will cover all costs for traveling to and from the field site. You only pay your travel expenses from your home to our office. Accommodation and food are free. NWHO will try its level best to provide finest living arrangements for its valuable volunteers. Those who will be deployed in field will be provided with secure, clean tentage accommodation.

Preparing for your Trip

Once you have secured your placement in the program you will be provided with further information to help you prepare for your trip.  You will receive access to your online Program Guide which covers topics such as country information, details on your placement, travel links, visa application process and much more.  Your Volunteer Coordinator will be in touch with you, and can answer any questions you may have and provide you with guidance while you are preparing for your placement.

We also have videos, photo galleries, volunteer journals and other resources to give you an idea of what you can expect during your volunteer program with us.

Arriving in Country

You will be provided with detailed information on the necessary arrival arrangements for your program.  In most cases volunteers will be picked up at the airport by a representative of our partner organisation and taken back to their accommodation.

On the Project

You will find the in country partner to be an excellent support base during your placement.  In most instances training and orientation are provided at the start of your placement as a means to help you settle into your project as well as providing cultural and safety advice for your time on the project.

During your placement, NWHO staff will email you while in country to discuss how the program is going.  Our 24 hour emergency telephone number provides an opportunity to get in touch with us in the case of an emergency.

SAFETY

Travelling to a different country and experiencing a different culture can be a scary experience at the best of times, but when you are immersing yourself right into the culture through volunteering and living amongst the local community, this apprehension can often be compounded. While safety can never be totally guaranteed wherever we are in the world, NWHO and its partner organizations do all they can to ensure your volunteering project is as safe as humanly possible. You are placed in trustworthy institutions.

•  ...on long-term projects that allow you to make short-term commitment to activities and events of        interest to you.
•  ...for a year, two or more.
•  ...by e-mail giving professional advice or helping out with fundraising, project design and        development.

NOTE

Volunteers are generally responsible for their own air travel costs. In some circumstances, where funds are available, NWHO will pay for airfares for volunteers.
The minimum time required is usually 4 weeks. However, in the case of a response to an emergency, shorter times may be acceptable.
NWHO will cover in-country accommodation and food.
Load lists specific to each programme location are provided prior to departure.
After a period of volunteering, NWHO will endeavour to obtain paid positions for volunteers willing to work for longer terms. Please note, that the availability of paid positions is dependant upon programme funding.
Volunteers are responsible for their own medical/travel cover but NWHO maintains a comprehensive insurance policy to cover its volunteers in the event of injury or medical emergency.
Access to the internet and phone will be dependant on the services available in the country of operations. NWHO will ensure that volunteers have access to communicate with family to advise them of their save arrival and departure. For long term assignments and where the security situation is not ideal, NWHO will endeavour to provide access to a method of communication.

General Qualifications Top

Preferred candidates will have excellent written and oral communication skills; experience and/or interest in social justice, human rights, environmental preservation, health issues, international understanding, ICT, community organizing, and/or education.

Evaluation of Work and Exit Interview Top

The volunteers will undergo through a mid-term and final evaluation of work. Guidelines for evaluation will be prepared separately. The Executive Director will hold an exit interview at the time of departure of the interns/volunteers. The volunteers will hand over their charge to the concerned departmental heads. A certificate/letter of work/appreciation may be given to the volunteers at departure, accompanied by a farewell party.

VOLUNTEER TRAINING
