Project: NWHO Distributed Cooked Food Packets among the Flood Affectees in District Badin - Flood 2011

Once again Pakistan is encountering one of the worst natural disasters in its history in the shape of devastating floods. In this difficult time, millions of our brothers and sisters immediately need our help and support. Current flood has brought many miseries, created a havoc conditions in District Badin, more then 1.2 million people were internally displaced, where more than 50% are in the open sky, 90 to 95 % crops have been damaged, 70 % Katcha houses are damaged, where as 40 to 50% Pakka Homes have been severely hit by 48 hours continuous heavy rain.
Major Activities;
Thousands of homes in Badin and MirpurKhas were completely flooded. Cooking food/dry food posed an enormous problem. New World Hope Organization (NWHO) prepared Dry food/cooked food packets and NWHO has distributed 2,500 Dry food packets in the most affected areas of Badin.
There were packets of dry food and hygiene kits taken for 2,500 families in Badin District . Each packet contained the following things:
• 2 Kgs Rice
• 2 Kgs sugar
• 2 Packets of Biscuits
• 1 Packet of tea
• 1 litre Milk
• 1 Packet Mixed Masala
• 2 types of pulses 1 kg each
• 1 litre oil
• 1 Packet of Salt
• 1 Packet of juice
• 5 Kgs Flour
Hygiene Kit:
• 2 Soaps
• 2 Shampoo sachets
• 1 towel (Medium) |

| Project: Mineral Water Distribution to the flood victims in Tehsil Gularchi (Badin) - 2011 |
Purpose: To provide clean drinking water
Area of Operation: Badin District
Major Activities;
After a basic assessment of the affected areas, NWHO immediately started supplying mineral water to the flood affectees due to the non-availability of any clean drinking water in the area. Whole villagess (Chak 29, Chak 40, Chak 44, Chak 41and Chak 48 ) were surrounded by water and were cut off from main roads and water supplies.
To date NWHO has supplied mineral water bottles to roughly 11,500 families; each family was provided a pack of FIVE 1.5 ltr water bottles. |

| Project: Distribution of women Shawls to flood affected families in Badin, MirpurKhas-Pakistan |
Project Duration: 19 September To 23 September
As winter is approaching and majority of the flood affected families are still living in temporary shelters, there’s a need for provision of blankets in flood affected areas. Recognizing this need, In response to the tragic humanitarian disaster New World Hope Organization has distributed 2,000 woolen shawls (light blankets). 1,000 of these shawls were forwarded to the flood affected families via Flood Relief Volunteers in Chak Number 40 & 41 (Badin) while 1,000 units were distributed to needy and deserving affectees in the rural vicinities of MirpurKhas under the supervision of NWHO ’s team. |

| Project: Free Medical Camp in district Badin |

An Emergency Response Cell was established in NWHO headquarters and needs and damage assessments were conducted during and after the flood. NWHO’s Emergency Response Team started setting up medical camps to treat flood victims and start an ambulance service in flood affected areas of the Sindh. Now (25 sep 2011) Standing waters in several areas have started to spread diseases and many people have been infected with gastroenteritis, malaria, eyes and skin related diseases.
In view of the satuation New World Hope Organization also sent mobile health teams (the teams comprised male doctors, dispensers, hygiene promoters and helpers), ambulances and medicine to the flood affected areas of the Badin District (Sindh) on 06 September 2011 to provide emergency health care to children and families.
NWHO setup the Emergency Health Project on the 06 September 2011 and NWHO has treated approximately 28,892 OPD patients through 02 Mobile and one Fixed Medical Camp in Badin District. Mobile medical unit reached the most vulnerable people in the flood affected areas where people couldn’t get to the health units. NWHO Doctors' team with qualified paramedical staff provided health services in relief camps and visited 15 Villages, and organized day-long camps there in which they treated patients with different illness due to flood and also conducted 50 Health & Hygiene Sessions within the affected communities in 15 villages. |

Preventive Care: Distribution of water purification tablets
Project Duration: 18th to 21th September
NWHO has distributed water purificatin tablet to flood affected families and at least 22,500 families received aqua water purifier tabs in 2011 flood as well as NWHO mobile health teams have given awareness lectures on how to use the tablet to the flood affected people of District Badin.

Shortage of portable water is forcing people to drink flood water. After the Flood 2011 in Sindh Flood affected families are drinking Flood Standing waters, this contaminated water can effect their lives. In this scenario water filtration plants are most needed.
In view of the situation, On 18th to 21th September, NWHO volunteer and staff teams were engaged for distribution of water purified tablets among the flood victims as well as NWHO team members aslo demonstrated on how to use the tablet.
