Pursuing its ongoing effort to help the victims of the flood-2010 in Pakistan, NWHO in partnership with Shanti Volunteer Association (SVA), distributed the Non Food Items (total 37 items) to 120 flood affected families (approximately 840 beneficiaries) who badly affected by devastating flood, in Mishaq Village in Nowshera District of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) Province.
Heavy rains triggered flash floods and riverine floods in several areas of Pakistan at the end of July 2010. Khyber Pukhtunkhwa is the worst stricken Province in Pakistan where this flood has been recorded as the harshest ever in the history of KPK while Punjab and Sind are also severly hit from this disaster. Millions of homes in thousands of villages and towns have been destroyed. Infrastructure such as dams, power stations, roads, bridges, schools, agriculture wells, and drinking water hand pumps have been severely damaged or destroyed.
According to the UN, the Pakistan floods have affected more people than the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami, the 2005 Pakistan earthquake, and the 2010 Haiti earthquake combined. UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon has called the floods “the worst natural disaster the United Nations has responded to in its 65-year history”.
