medicines among them.
Emergency humanitarian assistance to Afghan refugees and displaced families has been a major component of NWHO. For this purpose the team of specialists regularly visit remote areas of the region, where healthcare services are inaccessible, and create health awareness among the people.
Before September 11 more than one million Afghans had been dis-placed from their homes and another three and a half million had become refugees. Most of them had taken refuge in Pakistan (2 million refugees) or islamic republic of Iran (1.5 million refugees).
The refugees’ poor health is a major concern of the Pakistani authorities. Owing to both the war and the famine in Afghanistan, the refugees often reach Pakistan in a deplorable condition.
A team of NWHO with two doctors held a free medical camp at Akora Khattak Afghan refugee camp from 29 December – 30 December 2007. where thousands of new arrived Afghan refugees are living without basic living facilities. The teams checked the ill children, women & men; and distributed medicines among them. As part of its mission of providing quality healthcare services to all.
A laboratory was also set up and some routine investigations like Blood Complete Picture, Urinalysis, Pregnancy Test, and Screening for Hepatitis B.
One patient who needed immediate eye surgery was taken to Wah Cantt along with the participants and was operated upon by Dr. Muhammad Ajmal on sunday 30 December. His condition is stated to be very satisfactory. Moreover, many patients needing eye surgery were given appointment for operation at the DHQ Hospital Rawalpindi-Pakistan.
MEDICAL CASES
A team of Doctors of NWHO took part in the camp where nearly 1000 patients were treated in 2 days. During the Medical Check-up the efficient doctors diagnosed all the patients with special care. Hundreds of women, children and men rushed to the medical camp and patients suffered from some common diseases were treated on the spot and were provided with free medication accordingly.
Others suffered with serious syndromes were referred to the centers for the free laboratory tests.Patients needing further investigation and treatment were referred to NWHO Hospital to be treated free of cost or at subsidized charges. There are thousands of refugees that need medical care.

NWHO visited Akora Khattak Afghan refugee camp where thousands of newly arrived Afghan refugees are living without basic living facilities and on each visit it was observed that each time the refugees mourned about their different diseases and that they could not afford the costly treatment so the team decided to arrange a free medical relief camp by providing the medical staff on their door step and to diagnose their syndromes at once.
Medical Objectives
To serve the Afghan Refugees with free medical treatment.
To be well versed of the entire medical issues and troubles faced by the Afghan Refugees specially women and children,
To provide free medical relief to all those Afghan families who due to their poor economic condition & strict traditional norms are not able to approach specialists for appropriate medical treatment & ultimately suffered hazardous infections
To have the complete info about the other serious illness common among them in order to be referred to the referral centers for the medical tests
PUBLICITY & PROJECTION
in order to secure the maximum attendance of the targeted refugee community so as to provide them with free Medical treatment with medicine, a plan was made to serve the Afghan refugees with free medical treatment. In this regard prior to the specific date visits were made in the refugee concentrated areas. Furthermore pamphlets were distributed and meetings were held with the refugees. Banners and posters (in Persian, Pashto& Urdu) were pasted in the locality where the medical relief camp was going to be organized.
NOTE:A crowd was expected since large number of families with many children were desperate to receive medical treatment. We are grateful to the local community volunteers who were helpful in maintaining order and discipline in the camp.

At the conclusion of the camp, Mr. Muhammad Ajmal Khan, Chairman NWHO gave a briefing regarding New World Hope and also thanked the participants of the Free Medical Camp.
