Volunteer Training for Disasters 2010

Volunteering plays a major role in NWHO’s efforts in humanitarian aid and disaster response. Volunteers provide emergency assistance and relief to the victims of natural disasters.

NWHO designed the Volunteer training for disaster program to enable local NWHO volunteers in Charsadda district by teaching them vital skill sets and empowering them with basic technical knowledge  to respond, survive and recover from disasters through lectures, practical activities, short films and documentaries on  flood and earthquakes; workshops, practical life-saving skills and a first aid training program.

Climate change and disaster risk reduction

Training workshop on Climate change and disaster risk reduction was held in Jhelum, Pakistan, on 5 November 2009, and Organized by New World Hope Organization. The workshop was attended by about 35 participants, including representatives from the teachers, and school children and local community leaders, all of whom discussed the importance of disaster education for children and its integration into the school curriculum as well as talked about climate change and its impacts. School Earthquake Safety and Preparedness Training Program

Time frame:

The School Earthquake Safety and Preparedness Training project was started in January 2009 with a purpose to promote a culture of earthequke safety in the schools of Pakistan.

Total number of attendees:
The aim of School Earthquake Safety and Preparedness Training project is to establish in 20 schools in 04 selected districts (05 schools per district) in one year. Minimum 500 students in each of these schools will be receiving disaster awareness and earthquake preparedness training through Lectures based on power point presentations, practical activities, short films and documentaries on earthquakes, workshops, practical life-saving skills and first aid training programme

This is a two year project, extendable to 5 years, starting from January 2009. The first year has been successfully completed. Activities will be same in both years. However, every year, 05 new schools will be added in each district.

DISASTER MANAGEMENT COURSE

Time frame: 15-16 December 2008

Objectives:

The course aims to equip participants with the essential knowledge and skills required to proactively plan for effective disaster response, and to effectively manage sudden-onset disasters when they do occur. Special attention gave to the rendering of humanitarian assistance to vulnerable populations.
